The CurseForge desktop client currently lacks native, granular UI scaling options. On high-resolution displays (such as 4K monitors, 1440p screens) or multi-monitor configurations with mixed scaling factors:
UI elements, buttons, and mod lists either render microscopically small, forcing users to squint or lean in, or rely on blunt OS-level scaling that results in blurry text and interface clipping.
Users with accessibility needs, visual preferences, or specific screen setups cannot adjust text size or application density independently of their operating system's global display settings.
Because the app serves as a heavy hub for managing large modpacks, reading lengthy descriptions, and navigating dense inventories, a fixed-size or poorly scaled interface creates noticeable eye strain and friction.
Implement robust, user-controlled UI scaling within the CurseForge application settings:
In-App Scaling Slider / Dropdown: Add a scaling preference in the general settings menu (e.g., ranging from 80% to 200% in 10% or 25% increments) allowing users to tailor the interface density to their exact monitor setup.
Dynamic High-DPI & Fractional Scaling: Ensure native responsiveness to system DPI changes on-the-fly without requiring a full application restart or causing asset distortion.
Independent Font Scaling (Optional Bonus): Allow text scaling separate from structural element scaling so users can keep the compact layout while making descriptions and changelogs easier to read.
Given that CurseForge is built on modern desktop frameworks (utilizing Electron/Overwolf architectures), exposing Chromium’s native zoom/scaling factors or properly configuring window scaling flags (highDpiSupport / zoom factor APIs) should be achievable without a ground-up UI rewrite.
Ensuring proper CSS/flexbox wrapping in list views and mod details will prevent text clipping or overlapping elements at higher zoom levels.
Accessibility: Drastically improves usability for visually impaired users or those sitting further back from large displays.
Modern Standard: Brings CurseForge in line with nearly all modern desktop productivity and gaming launchers (Steam, Discord, Epic Games Launcher), all of which feature built-in scaling or zoom hotkeys (Ctrl + / Ctrl -).
Retention & Comfort: Reduces daily friction for power users who spend hours browsing, updating, and managing heavy mod collections.
