If you select the profile option to allow content management the change version button appears.
There is no reason why this should happen, you can, infact
disable content management
update the modpack version
re-enable content management, only if you want to
your added mods are kept in the profile safe and sound
maybe upon doing these things, configs could change; or a mod that was updated through content management could be downgraded; but a simple warning with an okay box "features added through content management may be overridden by this action" would suffice.
keeping separate list of changes made through content management and applying them automatically after the version update to the modpack could possibly solve these problems as well

I often enable content management to add in extra quality of life mods like Distant Horizons, but then I can't update the modpack without going in and turning the feature off, and sometimes I'll want to disable the mod or add in a new one I've heard of, but I have to just keep toggling it off and on in the settings? I agree an option with a warning should be more than enough. Both features exist elsewhere
